Midnapore is a residential community located in the SE Quadrant of the City of Calgary. It was originally annexed into the City of Calgary in 1961 and was established as a neighbourhood in 1977. It actually operated as its own town with its own train station prior to that and got absorbed into the City of Calgary due to rapid expansion.  The Fish-Creek Lacombe LRT station which is located along Macleod Trail is designed with the former Midnapore train station in mind and is an active replica that is used as part of Calgary’s Light Rail Transit System. Residents of Midnapore have access to a large variety of recreational facilities, fast food restaurants and a vibrant community centre that it shares with the adjacent community of Sundance. There is also the Midnapore Mall which houses a variety of retail stores. There is a man- made lake which provides swimming in the summer and a skating rink and toboggan hill in the winter.  Some houses border onto Fish Creek Park and in the northern part of the community there are some houses that even border onto the lake. It is not uncommon to see a variety of wildlife such as coyotes, foxes, and deer wandering around the community.  As of 2014, Midnapore had a population of 6,956 people with 2,682 occupied dwellings. Sixty eight percent of these homes were owner occupied. The median age is 42.



Neighboring communities are Shawnee Slopes, Millrise, Sundance, Lake Sundance, Shawnessy and Diamond Cove. It is bounded on the north by Fish Creek Park, on the west by Macleod Trail, on the east by Sundance and Fish Creek Park and on the south by Sun Valley Boulevard. The Mid Sun Community Association was founded in 1977 and serves 18,000+ people that reside in both communities, as well as residents of south Calgary. The current facility was built in 1987 with plans for expansion in the not too distant future. Midnapore has a large business section with a Tri-Services station (police, EMS and Fire), Re/Max office, Beverly Centre elderly facility, Wingate Inn, a junior high and private elementary school, H & R Block offices, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness’s, Midnapore Elementary and Mother Teresa (separate-Catholic).



Residents of Midnapore have access to five LRT stations which include Shawnessy LRT Station – 0.77 km, Fish Creek-Lacombe Station - 1.11 km, Somerset-Bridelwood LRT Station - 1.23 km, Canyon Meadows LRT Station – 1.73 km, and Anderson LRT Station - 2.96 km. There are a total of six bus routes that are easily accessible throughout the community, being routes 11, 12, 15, 52, 78, 178. The closest libraries are the Shawnessy Branch – 1.81 km, Fish Creek Branch – 4.26 km, Glenmore Square Branch – 8.56 km, Alexander Calhoun Branch – 12.74 km.
